NARAL Members An Early Force in Jordan’s Campaign, Turned Out Pro-Choice Vote Through Election Day
In a victory for women and families across Georgia, Jen Jordan was elected to be the next state senator in Georgia’s 6th district. NARAL was an early force in this special election, and took aim at the Republican supermajority in the Georgia State Senate by strongly backing Jordan’s campaign. To congratulate Jen Jordan on her strong showing tonight, NARAL leaders issued the following statements:
“NARAL members are proud to congratulate Jen Jordan on her victory today,” said NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue. “It is a huge victory for women and families that a true, pro-choice champion won the seat that once belonged to Hunter Hill, a rank-and-file Republican who contributed to making the Georgia state legislature hostile towards women’s reproductive freedom. With this election, Georgia voters have shown that they are fed-up with the GOP’s out-of-touch, anti-choice agenda and stand ready to support leaders who embrace our progressive values and fight for our reproductive freedom.”
“At a time when the Republican supermajority in Georgia’s State Senate has failed to stand up for women’s health or our basic human rights, Jen Jordan’s victory is a huge win for our state,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia State Director Laura Simmons. “Georgia voters have sent a clear signal that we will stand up to politicians who spew hate speech against women and those in the LGBT community. NARAL Georgia members are proud to have supported Jordan from the very beginning and are ready to continue working together to expand access to basic reproductive healthcare.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia worked hard to turn out pro-choice voters across the state with over 11,500 calls and 16,195 texts to voters across the 6th district. NARAL members went door-to-door to support pro-choice champions Jen Jordan and Nikema Williams, and sent multiple, targeted mailings in support of their candidacies.
