NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia today announced its endorsement of a slate of pro-choice champions in Georgia. Luisa Wakeman (HD 43), Essense Johnson (HD 45), Betsy Holland (HD 54), Aisha Yaqoob (HD 97), Sam Park (HD 101), and Jasmine Clark (HD 108) earned NARAL’s support because of their commitment to protect reproductive freedom for women and families across Georgia. NARAL has served as an early force in races across Georgia, up and down the ballot.
“For far too long, our representatives have played politics with the health and wellbeing of Georgians,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia State Director, Laura Simmons. “The fact is, Georgia women and families deserve better. As we head into the final days of this election cycle, NARAL members are knocking doors, making calls, and ensuring voters know that they have an opportunity to elect candidates that can make a real difference for women and families. We are going to leave it all on the field to make sure that our pro-choice champions up and down the ballot win on November 6th.”
“I am incredibly honored to be endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia,” said Sam Park, candidate for HD 101. “I will continue to stand with women and firmly believe in a woman’s right to choose, universal access to contraception, and protection against pregnancy discrimination. At the State House, it is imperative that we stand in support of protecting reproductive rights and expanding healthcare in Georgia. As Representative, I will continue to stand and fight for women’s rights and liberty.”
“For too long, the male-dominated state legislature has sought to strip women of their bodily autonomy when it comes to making reproductive healthcare decisions,” said Betsy Holland, candidate for HD 54. “As a member of the Georgia General Assembly, I will fight for women’s access to reproductive healthcare without government interference. Choosing when and how to start a family is a vital component of a woman’s economic opportunity, personal well-being and overall health. Our citizens, our families and our state are stronger when we support women’s right to choose.”
NARAL has mobilized members and volunteers in the state to fight for the reproductive freedom of Georgia’s women and families. NARAL has been an early force behind candidates at every level, most recently leading the charge to help elect Nikema Williams in SD-39 and Jen Jordan in SD-06, and acting as a key supporter in Stacey Abrams’ race for Governor.
NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
